Deirdre Gogarty-Morrison

At eleven, I knew I wanted to be a boxer in Ireland, a country that banned women from the sport at the time. I managed to find a gym to workout and spar, and in my late teens the great Pat McCormack agreed to train me.

After a few underground fights, I left my homeland and family and moved to the United States to pursue my calling. My choices were to box or die. So I worked hard and fought harder.

If you’d like to climb through the ropes with me, be sure to pick up a copy of My Call to the Ring: A Memoir of A Girl Who Yearns to Box.

Now retired from competing, I work as a graphic artist by day and train boxers at night with my American coach, Beau Williford, at Ragin’ Cajun Boxing Club (where I married Victor Morrison in the ring on St. Patrick’s Day 2012).
